Birthday: August 3 - LEO Age: 17 at the beginning of the manga Status: A junior at the elite school for geniuses Moto Azabu High School Marriage:To Usagi at the age of 24(when she is 21) Personal Objects: A Moon Phase Pocket Watch which he gives to Usagi, and saves her from suicide in volume 3 How He Is Perceived By Others We all know how strong the physical attraction between Usagi and Mamoru is, and how he's admired by all the senshi for his looks and his intelligence. Michiru, Ami, and Mako-chan all, at one time or another, have commented on how good looking he is. However there was one man in the manga, Asanuma, who gave us greater insight into what Mamoru is like at High School with other students.*From Manga Volume 4*A group of boys walk by, and Makoto introduces a boy with blond hair whose name is Asanuma, and he is in 7th grade. This boy refers to Makoto as 'Makaoto-senpai' since she is his senior (older), and Makoto reveals that Asanuma has great respect for Mamoru. "Asanuma-chan's a regular here," says Makoto. She points at Usagi. "Look, Asanuma-chan! It's the girlfriend of the Mamoru-senpai you respect, Tsukino Usagi. I brought her today thinking I'd show her to you." She turns to Usagi. "This guy says he respects Mamo-chan tremendously!" "Wow, Mamo-chan's kouhai!?" thinks Usagi. "So you really are... his girlfriend," says Asanuma. "Mamoru-senpai can do too much! He's playing all kinds of sports with the talented kids who've come since school's started, and he's nice to the kouhai in junior high like us... I, Asanuma Ittou, want to be like a senpai!" Later in that volume when Makoto is about to be captured by the Dark Moon kingdom, Asanuma confides in Mako-chan of how he feels about Mamoru."Mamoru-senpai..." he says. "Something about that Chiba Mamoru-senpai in the high school... He acts so elite. The first time he and I met was when I was having my exam preview for this school..." Asanuma yawns as he walks to school in the morning. Mamoru passes by him. "Hey." "Oh!" says Asanuma. "Good morning!" "Umm, excuse me!" says Asanuma. "Is this the way to the junior high building?" "Going to the exam preview?" says Mamoru. "Are you taking this school's?" "Yes!" says Asanuma. "Moto Azabu Junior is the best in the city! It's distinguished as a private school with history, and it was recommended to me by my parents and others..." "Distinguished?" says Mamoru. "Only people with determination can survive here. It's a hungry and mean school. Hang in there." He shakes Asanuma's hand. "It was like an electric shock." Mamoru takes off his glasses."I'm sure you'll pass." Asanuma stares up at him. "He spoke with such composure, full of self-confidence... Two months later, I passed just like he had said. It was like Mamoru-senpai shared his strength with me then... And then, a month ago..." A group of students play soccer on the field. One swings his leg into the air toward the ball, and his shoe scrapes against Mamoru's forearm as he blocks him. "Sorry!" says the boy. "Are you all right?" "Yeah, fine," says Mamoru. "Go to the nurse's office!" Mamoru walks off the field. Asanuma passes by. "What... Mamoru-senpai?" he thinks. He watches as Mamoru sweeps his hand over his scraped, bleeding arm. The scrape and blood vanish. "He healed the injury... by himself!?" thinks Asanuma. |

Tall, dark and handsome, he appears in the nick of time to save Sailor Moon and the other senshi. The anime does this character a great unjustice when all it gives him is some pretty words and a capeful of roses to hurl at his enemies. In the anime, although he possesses a cane, and has some teleportation ability, he is the weakest of all the senshi. Not so in the manga. This is the Tuxedo Mask/Kamen that we all wish we could have seen. Asanuma, a fan of Mamoru in the manga, met Mamoru one day while he was nervous about his high school entrance exams. Mamoru reassured Asanuma and shook his hand, giving what felt like to Asanuma, an electric shock. Later, Asanuma witnesses Mamoru getting injured playing soccer and healing himself of the injury. Jupiter/Makoto explains to Asanuma in Volume 5: "Mamoru's power is called psychometry. It's the ability to sense everything with the touch of his hand. He doesn't just emit aura power from his fingertips and sense, but he can also actively give others that
power as healing or a shock. It is a power ordinary humans don't have, but he is human." Mamoru exhibits this power to sense things with a touch of his hand at the end of Manga Volume 2 when the Senshi have all sacrificed their lives to give more power to the Princess Selenity. Mamoru places his hands on the Earth, feels the injury of the planets and then locates the Senshi lying dead on the ground. His powers all are connected to the Earth because he is the Soldier of the Earth, although technically not a senshi. Two if his GREATEST powers were left out completely in the anime - that of his attack, La Smoking Bomber, and his main power source, the Golden Crystal Despite the fact that the anime took away all his powers, Tuxedo Kamen is STILL pretty strong and skillful. His aim in throwing roses NEVER fails. Even though he was dying, he aimed a rose perfectly at Beryl's heart and injured her in the anime. His careful aim has saved and helped Sailor Moon and the other senshi many times, not to mention his cane which extends and saved Sailor Moon from Prince Diamond. With Tuxedo Kamen, he is a lot like Sailor Mercury - both use their brains rather than their weak anime powers. And with his words of encouragement, he has helped motivate Sailor Moon and the Senshi to conquer enemies. He is like an older mentor figure to them all, and is highly respected and revered. |

| Endymion/Mamoru had 4 guardians, generals, his personal protectors: Jedite, Nephrite, Zoicite, and Kunzite (known as Malachite in the U.S.). The anime totally ignored this important fact and just makes them out to be "Negaverse henchman", when instead they have a much richer story. When each of the Generals died, they turned into the stone/gem they were named after. After Tuxedo Kamen dies in Usagi's lap, the white light of the moon and the Silver Crystal help Kunzite regain his memories and makes him the man he used to be. From manga volume 2: "Damn!" Kunzite says. "I can't sustain this barrier anymore!"He transports back to the stone castle of the Dark Kingdom. He enters the room where three glass coffins are stored. He looks down at one of the decayed corpses. Muscle and skin begin to grow around the skeletons, until he is looking at the face of Jadeite. The glass casing breaks pen. "Jadeite!?" Kunzite calls. "Nephrite, Zoisite!? You've come back to life!?" He sees the other two also restored. "What's that light?" he says. "What happened to our deep sleep? What are we doing here? Where's our master...? He was probably born again on Earth... Where is he? Endymion-sama..." *FLASH BACK*"What are you arguing about?"Endymion asks. "Prince," Kunzite says, standing with the three other generals. "We are being tightly controlled. We can't stand the methods of the Moon Kingdom. They are watching us very closely." "When did this start?" says Endymion. "Watching you!? Who's doing that? That evil creature? You don't know!? Use your skills! Find out!" "The memory...?" Kunzite says. "The memory of our previous life...? I understand. We must search for our master... Prince Endymion-sama. We have been reincarnated. Our memory is back. Again, we have fell in with the evil forces, and betrayed ourselves." He sees the body of Zoisite fall back and melt apart. "Something's happening to his body!" he says. "Zoisite! Nephrite, Jadeite! Have you become stone!? You're gone again..." Kunzite sees that the once noble, kind-hearted generals, who were brainwashed by Beryl and Metallia, have now turned into small stones. He, himself, now remembers his past - serving Endymion. Kunzite has returned to his true self. But this will not last for long.. Kunzite is mourning over the deaths of his beloved friends, the other generals, and is happy he has found his master, Endmymion. He realizes that all the men have turned into small stones. He now knows he is aligned with evil forces and sees Beryl talking to the evil gaseous entity, Metallia. I shall include a scene from the manga, as it is poignant, to show how the evil Beryl manipulated truly good people and destroyed true love. "Queen Beryl," calls Kunzite. "I'm here. If we get the Mystical Silver Crystal, the four generals will come back to life." "His body's spirit was destroyed..." she remarks about Endymion. Kunzite remembers the past... Selenity screams as the blade cuts through Endymion. "Noooo! Endymion!!" His four generals stare at the prince in horror. "No..." Kunzite thinks. "That wasn't right. This isn't right. I have to say something before it's too late." He speaks to Queen Beryl. "Just what do you plan to do with Prince Endymion's body?" Queen Beryl raises her hand at Kunzite. A jewel glows in his forehead. Waves begin flowing into it. "Forget..." she says. "Swear your loyalty to our growing leader. You brought that body to me, and no matter how many times you're reborn, you will work for me. Kunzite, go! I won't fallow you to fail again! Try and get energy from the humans. The princess will surely show up. And when she does, take the Mystical Silver Crystal!" And with that Kunzite is once again turned to evil. He attacks the soldiers in the city. They transform & Sailor Moon flies out over the earth into space so as to lead Kunzite away from the innocent humans.The soldiers follow. He is getting ready to blast Sailor Moon & kill her, but Venus exclaims that they won't watch their Princess die again. All pool their power & blast Kunzite to death. He reappears as a the jewel Kunzite, at Beryl's feet and Beryl orders Endymion to awake - a soulless corpse - and Endymion takes the 4 jewels, which have turned into cracked stones. The next time we see the Generals is when Mamoru's soul comes back to him. Usagi realizes the only way to save the Earth is to kill Endymion because 1/2 of Silver Crystal was absorbed into him, and that is what is making Metallia so powerful. She slashes Endymion, and then turns the sword upon herself and puts it through her. Both Mamoru and Usagi fall. When they awake they find that Mamo-chan's pocketwatch he gave Usagi saved her from the sword's blade, and that the 4 stones of the general saved Mamoru from the blade as well. He reaches into his jacket and pulls out a cracked jewel. "I kept it against my chest... The stone is in pieces... The four stones..." An image appears before him and he strains to see it. Our master," says the voice. "We're finally able to meet." "Kunzite...? Is that you?" "Queen Metallia, the obstacle, is an emperor of darkness with the power to turn everything to stone. That demon will absorb all the energy, and enlarge the substance of the darkness. The mark on that thing's forehead... That is Queen Metallia's heart.If you concentrate your power and aim your attack there..." Kunzite tells him. He stands with the three other generals. "Master, we are glad to have been able to meet you. We hope this time you two will have peace..." The stone shatters in Mamoru's hand. "Kunzite...Jadeite...Nephrite...Zoisite..." He feels his chest. "Did you stop the sword tip for me? Did you bring me back to life?" Someday, the souls of the Generals will be re-born and they will be together again with their master. |
